Taylor Swift - One of the world’s top female pop country music singers

Taylor Swift is one of the highest selling, most beloved pop country music singers in the world today. Though Swift has been writing songs since she was 12, her career truly kicked off when Sony/ATV Tree publishing house employed her at age 14, making her the youngest songwriter they ever hired. And as luck would have it, Scott Borchetta, the CEO of Big Machine Records was so impressed by Swift’s performance in a café in 2005, he later gave her a record deal.





The following year Swift recorded her debut eponymous album, Taylor Swift, which shot to number 19 on the Billboard 200 charts. It finally reached number five by 2008 and became that decade’s longest standing album on the Billboard 200 charts. Her next record, Fearless won Album of the Year at the 52nd Grammy Awards, where she received a total of four awards.





With her relatable, heartfelt lyrics and golden pop-country voice, chart-topping singles like "Love Story", "You Belong With Me", "Teardrops On My Guitar" and "Should’ve Said No" continue to strike a chord with fans young and old around the world. So personal are her albums that even the 21-year-old Pennsylvanian has said that listening to her songs is like reading a snippet of her diary.





Despite earning her musical stripes at such a young age, Swift’s recognition at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards was famously cut short by US rapper Kanye West. During her acceptance speech for the Best Female Video for "You Belong With Me", West walked up on stage, grabbed Swift’s microphone and boldly declared that singer Beyoncé should have won the award. The incident led to her famous guest appearance on Saturday Night Live where she gave West a piece of her mind.





Swift’s latest and third album, Speak Now was released in 2010 and has since sold more than 4.8 million copies worldwide. Thus far, the young songstress has sold over 33 million singles and 20 million albums around the globe. It was not since LeAnn Rimes or Shania Twain that the music industry would see the mainstream public buy country music at this rate.
