Preparing your wardrobe for the cooler months

Designers and clothing brands are always one step ahead of shoppers. By the middle of summer, the shops are already showcasing the latest autumn and winter wear.

When wintry clothing starts showing up in the shops it’s a good reminder to start preparing your wardrobe for the cooler months:



- Wardrobe clearance. Before you shop for new cooler weather clothing items, take the opportunity to clear out your wardrobe. Hoarding old clothes is a problem for many, but as a general rule if you haven’t worn the item for 1 year or more, it’s definitely time to throw it out or give it to a new home.


- What do you need? Once you’ve cleared out your wardrobe and done a stock take, you’ll have a better idea of what you actually need for the upcoming warmer months. This will help you avoid buying new items of clothing just for the sake of buying.



- Warmer clothes on sale. If you’re not worried about having the latest season’s stock, then the summer sales can be a great time to pick up discounted winter clothing items from the previous season. For certain staple items that often come in classic styles – such as women’s jackets – the summer sales offer a great opportunity to stock up on such items at discounted prices.


- Early shopping. There’s always a week or two when the weather suddenly changes and we realise that we are without a proper winter jacket or well-fitting women’s jeans. To avoid this situation, make the most of the winter stock that comes out early. That way, you’ll be prepared when it comes time to put away the summer shorts and pull on those jeans.



Prepare for the cooler months by taking stock of your existing wardrobe and shopping for cooler weather items before the winter months are upon us. It may be sweltering outside, but the shop’s racks are filled with jackets, jeans and even women’s knitwear.
