Weddings are fun, happy events which involve lots of food, family and friends, but it’s often hard to get your outfit choice just right. Whether you wish to plan your ensemble weeks ahead of time or an hour before you have to leave, the tips below should help you.

1. This does not occur to many wedding guests, but it is simply not appropriate to wear white to a wedding. People may assume that you are trying to upstage the bride; this might be true, but you should not make it obvious. You can wear white jewellery, but decking yourself out in mostly white clothing will not go over well. If you are not sure about what to do, ask somebody you know for further help.

2. Do not dress for the wedding as though you will be going to a party of a different calibre. Very short skirts, loud makeup, shiny fabric, and so on will only bring unwanted attention to yourself. Picture yourself looking at photos of the wedding a few or even ten years from now. What will you think as you look at yourself? Will you feel embarrassed? Will you laugh and move on?

3. If the wedding invitation does not specify what you should be wearing, take it upon yourself to make an educated and appropriate guess. Just because it does not say formal, that does not mean you can show up to the wedding in old clothes and overly casual shoes. By the same token, if you decide to go with formal, do not wear a gown that makes you look out of place. If you are not meeting any royalty, there is no reason to dress as if you are one of them. Dress suits are always a safe and super stylish option, paired with some sparkly jewellery and heels in the season’s most current style.

4. Try not to pick a pair of shoes that will become uncomfortable within a certain time frame. You may sit for the ceremony but the events afterward will require a lot of standing and socialising. Try some chic peeptoe heels with a platform or kitten heel if you don’t do so well with very high heels or platforms.
