They're called car 'extras' for a reason - you don't actually
need a sunroof, car entertainment system or even powered windows. But it's not a bad idea to consider whether such extras will improve your driving experience and whether they could affect the price you would get for your vehicle if you were to re-sell it. For car novices at their
Sydney Honda dealer, for example, who are about to buy a new car, determining whether the car extras would be a good idea is often difficult for lack of knowing what these extras are and what they mean.
So here's a guide to some of the car extras and features available, so that you can decide whether they're something you'd like to invest in when purchasing your car.
- Power must haves - Even though they're still classified as "extras", power windows and doors will be included in most new vehicles, as will other power features such as air-conditioning, power steering and automatic transmission. Because power features and extras are widespread and often expected in the car market today, the inclusion of power extras can be a must have for vehicles on the used car market.
- Power Entertainment - Entertainment options usually refer to CD and DVD players. While CD players will come standard with many new vehicles, DVD plays are a luxury - but one that can be worthwhile for long car trips with small children, and in adding resale value to your vehicle.
- Sunroof - A self-explanatory car feature, sunroofs are retractable sunlights that can be enjoyable for warm weather driving. A sunroof will add to the 'driver experience' and at resale may make a buyer more willing to pay more for the added feature.
- Colour -While paying extra for a unique car colour might seem like a good idea at the time, remember that the standard black, white and silver cars sell most easily in the used car market. If you're trying to sell a used Peugeot, for example, it is more likely to sell if it is a neutral colour.
- Window tinting - Window tinting is a personal preference. Those travelling with small children often prefer it for the sun protection it offers.
There are many other car extras and features available for an additional cost when purchasing a vehicle. If you're unsure of what they mean and what value they'll add to your car, do your research and ask a few different dealers to explain them to you so you can make an informed decision that suits your car needs.
